JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia -- King Fahd of Saudi Arabia held talks late Monday with Gen. Tommy R. Franks, Chief of the U.S. Central Command, on security in the Persian Gulf region and military cooperation between the two countries.
Franks, who took control of the Central Command earlier this month, is due to meet Saudi officials and visit the Prince Sultan Air Base, in the Saudi desert.
The base houses about 4,000 troops of the U.S.-led international coalition that helps enforce the ''No Fly'' Zone over southern Iraq.
Franks has already visited Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates as part of his current tour of Persian Gulf Arab states.
The Central Command oversees U.S. military operations in 25 countries, spanning from the Red Sea to Central Asia and containing 70 percent of the world's oil reserves.
